Library volunteers play an important role as partners in the Library's mission of connecting people to the world of ideas and information.  We have a number of rewarding opportunities for volunteers including special projects in the Local History room under the direction of the Local History Librarian, supporting children and teen programming, keeping our collections in order, assisting with clerical work, assisting with the Summer Reading Program, and unique roles for teen volunteers.
 
Are you a good fit to be a volunteer at the Library?
 
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who help in a variety of ways.  The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in our community and we appreciate our volunteers each and every day.  However, sometimes a volunteer simply does not match available opportunities. Here is a quick guide to determine if you would be a good match for our opportunities:

• Age 13 or older
• Able to commit to an ongoing schedule (weekly or monthly)  at most 10 hours per week
• Able to pass a criminal background check (age 18+)

The Barberton Public Library offers three unique volunteer opportunities for students in grades 7 – 12. Each position requires parental or guardian approval. Teen volunteer hours earned from the Barberton Public Library may be used to meet graduation requirements, complete service projects for other organizations, or to gain valuable experience and to build a resume.
 

• General Teen Volunteers may choose their area of interest with regard to the tasks they are asked to perform during volunteer service hours. Teens may select the Main Floor, Children’s Floor, Technical Services, or Maintenance areas for their service hours. Please note that volunteers will not always be needed in all departments.
