The decade is often remembered for the strife that was seen all over the country, however, there were many positive events during the 1960s. The space race began with the moon landing and inspired many improvements in scientific and medical technologies. In Barberton, Route 224 opened and provided direct highway access for the local area, a new viaduct was built to replace the 1919 bridge, and the City celebrated its 75th anniversary with birthday cake, souvenirs, and exhibits.
