Enchanted Times Fall 2023 Final (Full Pages)

Over 15 local representatives and candidates came to the Library to chat with community members and answer questions. Attendees got to know their representatives and candidates in a relaxed environment! Local representatives and candidates who attended were: Nina Angeloff, Kenny Cheatham, Megann Eberhart, Carol Frey, Rebecca Gearhart, Justin Greer, Monte Harris, Thomas Heitic, William Judge, Tina Ludwig, Todd McKenney, Steve Elliott, Cletus Pulliam, Jennifer Hager, Katrina Cook, Diana Stevenson, Tayler Thompson, Kimberly Trenary, and more. Fall Second Annual Local Author Fair Barberton Public Library was very excited to host 21 authors for the second annual Local Author Fair! This event brought many community members to the Library to celebrate reading locally! As attendees toured the Library, they got to talk to their favorite authors and walk out with signed copies of local authors’ books. We hope to see everyone there again next year! Featured authors at this event included: Don Ake, Josh Bechtel, Jane Blasio, Cynthia Bowers-Martin, Keyanna Christian-Ellis, Dianne Couts, Cari Dubiel, Amanda Flower, Mercy Givens, AudraKate Gonzalez, Tshänä Nkó Jefferson, Joan Kennedy, Richard Koloda, Irv Korman, Kathryn Long, Mindy McGinnis, Bob Morehead, Cat Russell, Conrad Storad, John Taylor, and Jane Turzillo. The Library and the Community First Civic Engagement Night Libraries are more than just books; they are community centers. A place to learn new skills and host community gatherings like this one; it’s about so much more than the books - Amanda Flower, featured local author Alberta Hawse was an employee at the Library for nearly 16 years before she retired. During her time at the Library, she worked in both the Research and Children’s Departments. As an author, playwright, and traveler, she was an inspiration to many at the Library. She authored several books including: The Call of the Green Bird, The Birds of Alberta, and Vinegar Boy: Encounter Christ through the Dramatic Story of Vinegar Boy. Hawse sadly passed away in March of 2009, but her memory is still cherished at the Library. Copies of her published works still have a home on the Library’s shelves. Alberta Hawse will always be remembered with her name on the Walk of Fame, between Kave Coffee Bar and Lake 8 Movies.
