DECEMBER 2015: The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken - a great read for young Star Wars fans!

“This story begins as so many do: a long, long time ago … in a place far beyond the glittering stars you see in your sky. … This is a story of destiny.  Of being in the wrong place at the right time.  Of courage.  And, yes, of a force more powerful than imagination.  But it is also the story of a princess, a scoundrel and a farm boy.”  pg. 1 & 2 – The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken

Written in three sections, each told by a different character, The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy, by Alexandra Bracken, is a retelling of Star Wars: A New Hope, perfectly suited for young Star Wars fans.  The first section, told from Princess Leia’s point of view, covers the capture of her starship by the Empire, her rush to send the secret plans she stole to Obi-Wan Kenobi, and her eventual imprisonment on the Death Star.  The second section, told from Han Solo’s point of view, covers meeting Luke and Obi-Wan in the Cantina, rescuing Princess Leia, the incident in the Death Star’s garbage chute and finally escaping the Death Star.  The third section, told from Luke’s point of view, covers finding the Rebel Base and the final battle.  Action, adventure and Star Wars … what more could you ask for?

In May 1977, which was really a long time ago, but in our galaxy right here, the Star Wars movie saga began.  Thirty some years later, young adult author Alexandra Bracken, along with children’s authors Tom Angleberger (Origami Yoda) and Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark & Grimm), were given the opportunity to adapt the first three Star Wars movies into chapter books for children.  Bracken used her imagination, George Lucas’ film script and a 1981 radio drama script created by Brian Daley to create the first adaptation - The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy.  If you enjoy The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy, you may also want to check out So You Want to be a Jedi? by Adam Gidwitz and Beware the Power of the Dark Side! by Tom Angleberger.   You can also search our on-line catalog for other Star Wars stories.
