African-American Experience in Ohio This digital collection of historical documents is part of American Memory, an online resource of the Library of Congress National Digital Library Program brought to you with the assistance of an award from the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Competition. This site provides an overview of Ohio's African-American experiences during the time period 1850-1920 in the words of the those who lived during the era.. Biography Biography and Genealogy Master Index The Biography and Genealogy Master Index was begun in the 1970s to index these names to aid researchers. The text has been updated periodically since the first edition appeared in 1980, most recently in 2008. The index concentrates heavily on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition to providing the individual's name, birth, and death dates (where available), the source document is included. Sources for this index vary from Who's Who of American Women and National Cyclopedia to American Biography to Directory of American Scholars and American Black Writers. This database is an essential tool for locating persons who appeared in a "Who's Who" publication in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Cyndi's List is a large comprehensive, categorized & cross-referenced list of links that point you to genealogical research sites online. Ohio History Connection Research Guides and Searchable Databases This collection of searchable databases (many of which were created under the Ohio Vital Information for Libraries Center, a grant-funded project of OHS supported by the State Library of Ohio and OPLIN) includes: Online Documents, Online Research Tools, Online Services, and On-location Services.
