Outreach
Our definition of service extends into the community.
It is the Library’s mission to provide services to everyone in the community. As a companion to our outreach efforts, we are happy to provide library programs at your organization’s meeting or event. Our Children’s Department visits schools, preschools and daycare centers located within our service area. Teachers are invited to request our teen librarian to speak to their class about new books and authors, library services, programs, downloadable eMedia or other resources. Our librarians can also give presentations on local history, book talks, early literacy, library services or lifelong learning.
Contact the Library Director to schedule a speaker for your event.
Home Delivery Services
Reading and listening materials can be a lifeline to the outside world for people of all ages who are unable to visit the Library. If you find that regular visits to the Library are impossible, and you live in the Barberton City School District either in your own home, in an apartment, or in a nursing facility, we can deliver books, music, DVDs, magazines, and more to your door! We are also happy to help your caregiver or family member make selections for you. For more information, call Reference Services at 330-745-1194. Many of our home delivery patrons enjoy reading large print books and/or listening to audiobooks.
Born to Read
Outreach begins the moment a child enters the world, through a program called Born to Read. When a baby is born at Summa Barberton Hospital, the family receives a free book bag containing a board book, bookmark, information about the Library and literature that stresses the importance of reading to children from birth. Over 300 book bags are delivered each year to newborns and their parents.
