Summer Reading Club

Readers of all ages can sign up at the library for Summer Reading Club starting on June 3 and earn prizes for reading throughout the summer. The 2019 theme of Summer Reading Club is "A Universe of Stories" and the club will run from June 3 through August 10.

Highlights of Summer Reading Club include an interactive animal show with Outback Ray, magic and humor featuring magician Michael Mage, and a juggling performance from Matt Jergens. Children ages five to nine can stop by the library for programs featuring dragons, slime, and more. Tweens can participate in weekly programs, including a presentation from Mad Science. Storytime and crafts are available for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Teens can complete a bingo sheet filled with a variety of activities like reading, attending a library event, or attending a play during Summer Reading Club. Adults may enter to win weekly prizes for completing various reading challenges. Prizes for adults include tickets to the Akron Art Museum, Great Lakes Science Center, and Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Teens and adults can visit the Reference Department to sign up for the club.

Parents can register children for Summer Reading Club in the Children's Department. Children will receive a reading log to keep track of their progress and prizes when they reach various goals for reading times. Prizes include a bookmark, a tattoo, a book bag, a coupon, a book, and discounted tickets to an Akron RubberDucks baseball game. The grand prize for children will be tickets to the Akron Children’s Museum.
